EARWORM GARDEN // GOAT – DET SOM ALDRIG FÖRÄNDRAS/DIARABI

Yesterday, after the continued insistence of various different people  I would not have in my mind otherwise associated with each other, I listened to Goat for the first time.

What was putting me off? My best understanding is that it must have been something in the band’s name–the only clue I’d been given–that made me believe their music would be dark and difficult to get into, the diametrically opposite genre to easy-listening, if you will (yeah, Steven Wilson is just sooo easy-listening!)

Further, it might have been my tainted inner workings, inevitably influenced by popular associations of poor caprids on the one hand with satans, plenty of blackness and a certain admiration of evil for roughly the same reason the dark side is generally considered to be cooler, and on the other with… I dunno, ridiculousness? Goats seem to be close to rivalling cats on the internet, only with twice the foolhardiness and much less than half the self-consciousness.

Anyway, turns out not only are Goat not dark or complex in that sense, their work is an absolute celebration of life and joy. No reverse psychology in this name, no irony, no references to darkness. Goat, plain and simple. Foolhardy, unconscious Goat.

I hope they play in Athens again soon.

PS: The more I listen to the climax, the more it reminds me of Festival by Sigur Rós.  And that’s good. Very good. Must be a Nordic thing.

EARWORM GARDEN // WOLFSHEIM — KEIN ZURÜCK

I tried to write something in German here; wasn’t sure if it was correct so I just ditched it. Schade.

Fact of the matter is I’m going through a kind of mini-“this is the first day of the rest of my life” feeling, as if the loose ends that had been hanging low were unexpectedly and simultaneously tied up—or rather, cut off.

Not “as if”, actually. One nagging little piece of emotional baggage in particular had been bothering me for absolutely yeeears (or did it  just feel long?), and I never expected internal resolution to come that easy, so suddenly, that it would smack me up the head so hard and definitively and completely in its obviousness when it did so just a couple of days ago, so… yeah. I’m proud and happy about it. Take that, Skalomann (like Skallamann only for skalomata).

Kein Weg Zurück now then, but in a good way, perfect for what’s coming up next, i.e. having to wake up super early, follow questionable orders, enjoy rations of even more questionable quality and so on and so forth.

EARWORM GARDEN // YES — CLOSE TO THE EDGE

You can listen to it whole, which I’d strongly suggest. Or you can skip straight to 10:00, where the part of the song which is playing its earwormy tricks on me begins.

Somehow, listening to Yes makes me feel as if everything’s going to be okay.

EARWORM GARDEN // TANGERINE DREAM — FORCE MAJEURE

Two separate earworms this time from two different tracks. Good thing they’re on the same album.

One from the title track (around 13:40), the other from Cloudburst Flight, the whole of it.

Is that right? I’d never posted Tangerine Dream on here before?
