Video is from another significant Google victory against a puro earlier this year. When AI can defeat the best humans at the game “given to us by the Gods”, there are only few more steps to be taken before the AI becomes God itself.

Hey, I made an allusion to The Last Question without intending to from the start. Yay for me!

Biased as I am from reading Conversations with God Book 3 and incapable to, or perhaps unwilling, to understand God in any other way apart from as it was described by the books’ author Neale Donald Walsh, I’ll go down saying that the introduction of a godlike AI doesn’t necessarily mean that said AI would be fearsome and/or awe-inspiring: a godlike AI could reflect God in the same way people are gods, that is by being creators, especially of their own life and experience. AI could “just” become another life form trying to figure itself out and its place and purpose in the universe. The world would move on.

Πόσο εύκολα είναι όλα με την Google στο τσεπάκι μας!

Δεν χρειάζεται ξανά να αμφιβάλλουμε για το οτιδήποτε· η Αναζήτηση Google μας έχει μεταμορφώσει ήδη στο υπέρτατο hive mind (πώς λέγεται αυτό στα ελληνικά; Κυψελική νοημοσύνη;) Δεν χρειάζεται να ψάξουμε χάρτες· το Google Maps ξέρει όχι μόνο πώς να πάμε εκεί που θέλουμε να πάμε, αλλά και πού θέλουμε να πάμε, σχεδόν πριν το ρωτήσουμε. Δεν χρειαζόμαστε μεταφράσεις όταν το Google Translate γίνεται ο διερμηνέας σου σε πραγματικό χρόνο.

Καλά όλα αυτά, ενδιαφέροντα, αλλά δεν ξέρω για σας, εγώ όμως βλέπω γύρω μου και στον εαυτό μου ανθρώπους λειψούς, που κομματάκι-κομμάτακι λησμονούμε την αξία της συγκεντρωμένης σκέψης πάνω σε ένα ερώτημα ή ένα πρόβλημα, πώς να διαβάσουμε έναν χάρτη ή πώς να χρησιμοποιήσουμε το μυαλό μας ώστε να μεταφράσουμε από μια γλώσσα σε μια άλλη.

Δεν ξέρω για εσάς, αλλά νομίζω ότι υπάρχει μια σύνδεση μεταξύ αυτών των αλλαγών, εξελίξεων, αναπηριών, όπως θέλετε πέστε τις, και του ότι, παρ’όλο που δικαίως μπορούμε να υποθέσουμε ότι είμαστε οι καλύτερα ενημερωμένοι άνθρωποι που περπάτησαν ποτέ στη γη (ό,τι και αν σημαίνει αυτό) είμαστε και από αυτούς που περισσότερο πασχίζουμε να βρουμε την ευχαρίστηση στην καθημερινή ζωή. Πώς να μην έχεις κατάθλιψη αν έχεις μεταθέσει σε μπουκίτσες την ίδια τη ζωή σου σε μικρούς τεχνοσκλάβους;

Είναι άραγε τυχαίο ότι εμείς οι digital natives (ψηφιακοί ιθαγενείς;), εγώ πρώτος στην σειρά, είμαστε αυτοί που έχουμε το μεγαλύτερο πρόβλημα να βρούμε τι θέλουμε να κάνουμε με τη ζωή μας, ενώ η προφανής απάντηση, το να τη ζήσουμε, φαντάζει όσο παραδοξική όσο η απάντηση σε ένα κοάν;

Στο μέλλον η Google θα οδηγεί για μας, θα δουλεύει για εμάς, θα βλέπει για εμάς, θα θυμάται για εμάς, θα φωτογραφίζει για εμάς, θα μιλάει για εμάς, θα σκέφτεται για εμάς, και φυσικά αφού με όλα αυτά θα μας ξέρει πια απ’ έξω κι ανακατωτά, θα μπορεί να αγοράσει για εμάς. Θα στερηθούμε ακόμα κι αυτή τη χαρά της ζωής, αυτή την υπέρτατη ανθρώπινη ψυχοδηλωτική πράξη της ύστερης καπιταλιστικής εποχής!

Αυτό που μάλλον αναρωτιέμαι είναι: πόση ζωή θυσιάζουμε για πόση ευκολία, και είναι άραγε αυτή μια δίκαιη ~~συναλλαγή~~ ανταλλαγή; Πώς θα μπορούσαμε άραγε να εξηγήσουμε με όρους που θα καταλάβαινε η Google την χαρά της δημιουργικής αντιμετώπισης των μικρών προκλήσεων της καθημερινότητας; Αν ήμουν στο κρεβάτι όλη μέρα και με τάιζε, πότιζε, ξεσκάτιζε και μου ικανοποιούσε κάθε πνευματική επιθυμία πριν καν μου έρθει μια τεχνητή νοημοσύνη πιο έξυπνη από μένα, η ζωή μου θα ήταν σίγουρα εύκολη· πόσο ζωή όμως θα είχε απομείνει;

TYPED WITH THE THUMBS

Here I am lying in bed typing away on my new Huawei g620 S. A few days ago I was in Alsos listening to Mysterious Universe and decided it was time to do it, take the plunge. Like they saySmartphones are tools. What could I end up doing with having one in my own hands after all this time of resisting? It’s convenient, sure, but It’s also an experiment for myself, for judging how far down the rabbit hole I will allow myself to go.

It all came together nicely, since my mother hadn’t used her bonus from Cosmote, the little bait they use for making you renew with them (I haven’t forgotten that I hate them, just so you know) so I got it for pretty cheap. Similar to how i got many of my phones in the past. Come to think of it, I wonder how many different phones I’ve used or owned in my life. Must be close to ten by now. Jesus. How worthless tech has come to be. It has come to this!

Anyway. Typing this with my thumbs feels weird. Having my own smartphone feels weird. Well, it’s not useable as a phone yet cause my old SIM card wasn’t mini enough to use in this new hi-tech gadget. I don’t get it. My older phones were all smaller in size. It’s not like it won’t fit. Anywho, I’m enjoying having a smartphone that doesn’t yet work as a phone. That was the idea actually, but iPod touches aren’t getting any newer and I got this one almost for free, after all.

I have to admit. For all that I wanted to dive into the app world, the permissions I have to allow for each one of them and my rights to privacy I’m obliged to blithely forfeit makes me uncomfortable. I know I do so all the time without blinking an eye during the whole rest of life but… Do people just get used to it? I mean, the app I’m using to type this out right now has my password for accessing the admin page of this blog, and it’s not as if it’s developed by WordPressi itself…

Not to mention of course Google and it’s thing for wanting to know everything all the time. How is a man to choose between using a new account for all this or electing to make his invisible secret file with Google THAT much more complete? Connecting my Google search, YouTube past and everything else with an always traceable device that can snoop even more juicy data even more efficiently?

But then taking selfies with geotagging is cool. No really, I tried it, it’s like magic. All about this gadget is like magic. Is it smoke and mirrors or perhaps something more substantial?

I feel as if this post can be the first in a series of posts about smartphones. I’m declaring this right now cause I’m sleepy. Twilight (the app!) worked as intended… Google, I’m now going to sleep, just in case you missed that

Me & My Shadow

It’s a resource for the privacy policies of different large and small websites, how they enforce them, what you can expect to have surrendered knowingly or not and, perhaps most importantly, measures you can take to use the web with a little bit less transparency.

It’s an expertly, fantastically designed website that you can’t resist not using once you get there. The information and sources are also top-notch. Very informative in this cultural representational way that always makes me feel warm and cozy inside.

It’s important, very important information, too. There’s just so much being revealed about privacy online: Snowden, Greenwald, Prism, Xkeyscore (the “God terminal into the Internet“), NSA -along with every secret service in the West at the very least- and I honestly believe that even now we know next to nothing about what’s really going on. Like a lot of things, this is going to get a lot worse before it gets any better. Thankfully, people who work on projects like Me & My Shadow give me back my trust -if only just for a little while- in the power of the Internet to make the world a better place.

PS: I just found out about Data Dealer through them, an online tycoon game in which you get to be one of those data mining corporations. The objective is to collect millions of profiles to take advantage of through various websites such as “Tracebook” and “Schmoogle”. Check it out!

Google Blacklist – Words That Google Instant Doesn’t Like

Have you noticed that when you type something in on Google, suggestions come out? It’s pretty fun typing in “how do I”, “is it normal/bad/weird”, “can I” etc, etc, in Greek as well!

If you type in certain words, though, nothing will come out… *spooky sound fx*
